아래는 하버드대에 유학 중인 한 중국인 학생이 미국의 대기원신문사로 보내온 편지 내용입니다. * * * 저는 중국 허난(河南)성에서 미국 하버드대로 유학온 학생입니다. 이곳에 온 이후로 저는 제가 예전에 알지 못했던 많은 것을 알게 되었습니다. 저는 대다수 중국 인민들의 고질적인 가난의 근본 원인을 비로소 이해하게 되었습니다. 이곳에 오기전 저는 학교를 졸업한 후 중국으로 돌아가 조국을 위해 열심히 일하려는 부푼 꿈이 있었습니다. 저는 너무 순진했고 진정 누구를 위해 일하는가에 대해 깊이 생각해보지 못했습니다. 저의 부모님은 한평생을 중국공산당을 위해 헌신하셨고 제가 같은 길을 걷는다면 부모님께서 저를 자랑스럽께 여길 것이라고 생각했습니다. 그 당시는 한 가지 단순한 생각만을 가진 젊은 청년이었지만 지금 저는 중공이 자행해 온 온갖 만행에 소름이 끼칩니다. 저는 더 이상 중공이 꾸며놓은 기만으로 가득찬 길을 걷지 않을 것입니다. 류 둥샤오(하버드대 유학생) 2005년 7월 23일 I am from Henan Province, China. Since I came to the United States to study at Harvard University, I have learned many things I didn’t know before. Now I understand the fundamental reasons for China’s poverty. Before I came, my plan was to finish school in the United States and then go back to China to work for my home country. I was too naïve, and had no idea whom I would be serving. My parents gave their entire lives to the Chinese Communist Party, and I thought if I served the CCP well, they would be proud of me. I was only a simple-minded young man back then.
